Default HA Guide

Hello, I'm a big PvE'r and know the game really well, been playing for years. Recently now, I've been getting into PvP more and more. Can anyone give me a detailed explanation on the different roles, maps, areas, professions, ect. to play in HA? Also, mods can move this if it's in the wrong area. I'm also not asking for builds, just advice on how to play HA.

Also, I know most won't group with me unless I have fame. I just want to know this before I join a HA guild, so I don't seem SO hopeless.

P.S. I'm not asking for a HUGE guide, just bits and peices of guides/tips you can post. THANKS!

Know... the maps, positioning, counters to common builds and when to weapon swap. that's just the basics, the rest is mostly from exp. Also if you can analyze your mistakes, and your teammates, you can learn what to do and what not to do.

If you want to understand how to HA on a higher level, you might want to read a long guide instead of just bits and pieces.

Two common basics from an infuser:

Kiting:

Running away from melee and aoe is important for the pressure to your backline. Do not run to your own partymembers as they will bear your damage/kd (f.e: earth shaker, rodgort's) Be aware that skills like bull's strike and melandru's shot can disadvantage kiting. Because you're running, you can't cast spells so you should be on your shieldset.

Weapon swapping:

A lot of the ha-players have a variety of weapon sets in their inventory. The most common used sets are: 40/40 set (always bring these if you're a midliner or backliner), shield set and a high energy set. By experience you'll learn when to swap. Important is that you have different shields for facing different damage.

There's a ton of decent advice floating around. Is there anything in particular that you'd like to know, or just searching for non-obvious advice?

Here's one: you can re-sync yourself by using any skill that gives you an invalid message. Repeatedly doing this and clicking to move can help on relic runs.

Here's a more useless tip: relics are captured in the Hall of Heroes when you move one over a defined margin (roughly defined by the altar square) while holding a relic. You can move the relic onto the altar without capturing it if you drop it on the steps and then pick it up on top of the altar.

If you'd like non-obvious answers that's fine, but if you're only interested in general help, you should use the search function, search the Wiki, and read the stickied threads. There's already plenty of information available.

Yes, the HA guide didn't include much about the actual tricks to relic runs.

-Click to move so you can angle in more random directions and better control your exact movement.

-Use a program like macro express to make a macro for /stuck. Spam that key frequently so you always know where you really are. This is critical for getting out of chokes on Unholy Temples and getting the last relics in at HoH.

-Understand when to run relics on Unholy Temples. A two or three man split (runner, prot monk, make haster usually) will often have difficulty getting the relic out of the relic pit if they have their snare and a few body blockers in there. Using a warrior to manhandle their snare and / or fire ele's to to break up body blocks can make life much easier since you'll never have a good PD mes @ lower ranks. It's better to spend a minute or two setting up a good run than three plus minutes waddling around with a bad run b/c people just can't resist grabbing the relic right away.

-Pay attention to the timer and know when it's a good time to try for ghost kills (ghost respawns every two minutes) Can't cap relics when he's dead and it will usually, at the very least force their infuser to come back. This is critical in the last two minutes if you're up because it guarantees the win. Less experienced teams allow this to happen to them all too often not paying attention to a warrior or fire ele that splits off and solo ganks the ghost before a monk can get back.

Forgotten Shrines and Antechamber can also be extremely frustrating for newer players, so I'll give you a few tips there too.

Forgotten Shrines

-If you have no vent and no real strategy, the best tactic is to zerg rush their side and try to gank their ghost and prot monk while sending your prot + ghost to cap mid and stall there, or go up to top if they abandon it. Using the standard prot + snare + ghost on bottom, everyone else mid to top will almost always result in a loss for less experienced teams because good teams know how to use the top shrine to stall while they send splits to cap the lower shrines. The zerg rush strategy is your only real option to catch them off guard strait away and get the early momentum if they lose their ghost and prot monk.

Antechamber

-This map usually turns into a large battle over the center shrine, but the fastest way to lose it is if you allow one splitter with the ghost to cap your back shrines. It is generally best to mirror their ghost with your ghost since a less experienced team will generally never split the right offense to quickly gank any splitters on your back shrines.

There's a sticky at the top that says "how to play heroes' ascent." It teaches you how to play heroes ascent.
